This post is going to be a bit of a ramble in case you hadn’t already realised, so time to sit down with a cup of tea.
Once again, it’s been another quiet day at work which has given me time to start taking notes on Chapter 8 – memory in preparation for TMA04. The question appears to be pretty straight forward but I need to make sure that I am being critical enough whilst still answering the question which is not my strongest point. My notes take the format of the area of study, relevant research, Type of study, Insider/Outsider point of view, criticism, support. So far there are a fair few pages but hopefully it will help me construct what I actually want to put in my essay. I really need to get this one done pretty quickly so that I can really get to grips with SD226 TMA01 which is due pretty soon afterwards.
DSE212 TMA05 is already looking like it is going to be tough going but after a few times of reading the relevant material in Research Methods book, it does appear to be rather helpful. After watch both parts of the DVD on each character, I do think that we’ve been given the easier one to analyse as she is quite open and she does talk a lot about attachments in her life. I think I am just going to use the coding that the Research Methods book uses as an example as it seems to work pretty well.
Day off tomorrow which means I can press on with the notes for TMA05 then print them off and decide what I want to include which will answer the question, there is a fair bit of stuff that seems interesting but the guide suggests certain sections. The study guide for week 18 seems pretty invaluable for this TMA so will read that over a few times.
A friend of mine (12 years younger) has decided that she wants to do a BSc (Hon) Nursing (Mental Health) as she already works as support staff in a local youth metal health hospital. She never did GCSEs and A-Levels so requires an Access course for HE in nursing before she can start. The access course is about £1,000 but the Nursing degree is free. The only down side is that she has been used to earning pretty decent money and although her work will support her and offer her a job at the end, she is going to have to cut back quite a bit. I only really mention this because I am starting to realise how many people are going in to further education later in life.
I have really started to investigate my MSc options as it isn’t something to be taken lightly. Firstly, although there is some funding out there on some courses, it isn’t going to cover any living expenses and I’m starting to wonder if I am better doing it part-time over 2 years, after all, it is only 1 more year in the grand scheme of things and it means my finances won’t be so badly hurt. I don’t have to stay within the car industry once I have the BSc (Hon) Psychology, it will allow me to step out and do something more relevant (hopefully) but to heave myself up any career ladders, I think that the MSc will be rather valuable especially as I am no longer any sort of spring chicken and will be getting close to the big 4 0 by the time this is all done and dusted.
My CV is another bone of contention which I need to start putting together, I still have time to fill in training gaps that I find if I get on with it fairly soon.
Ramble over else I will be going in to the finer points of Dexter and 90210.

Waiting for Results
I have no idea how long my first ED209 TMA is going to take to mark so I suspect much like DD101 it will be the end of the 2 weeks. Really need to get on with ED209 TMA02 especially as it appears to be rather straight forward also need to start reading and highlighting Book 2.
Boy toy has made me laugh today............ one of his ears is dry and flakey (nice, I know!!), he called me today to tell me that he thinks he knows what has caused it................ the radiation from his mobile phone!!! He is the conspiracy theory king.
Found a new pass time at work. Found a website which I can read 'Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling' by David Canter, it's really interesting and definitely motivating me to press on with my studies.
Thinking about emailing the proffessor of the MSc in Investigative Psychology that I want to do to ask if there is anything I can do to increase my chances of acceptance on the course......... I know this is REALLY early days but at least it would give me time to do something about it. Apparently over 200 people apply for the 20 places which isn't good odds but I hope there are factors that might go in my favour although speculative: 1) A degree from Open University - this has to show that I am able to motivate myself and study off my own back whilst working full-time, 2) If I get accepted then I will hopefully have my voluntary experience with the police which although will probably be no more than answering the phone...... but you never know. I think the personal statement is going to be rather vital so will start working on that as I go along. I am well aware that I am being rather premature based on the fact that I wouldn't actually start till September 2015 but it is an awesome goal to focus on.

A wet Sunday
Today is the first Sunday I've worked at new job which is going well by the way. Sundays are always a little hit and miss with footfall and today was a miss day. Have been struggling with a slight hangover today due a night of partying with the old folks and not getting home till gone 1am this morning.
Have managed to get through a fair chunk of the reading and highlighting for DD101 TMA07 and it has proved rather interesting especially the part about the troubles in Northern Ireland and the part I've just started in Piracy. There is a quote which pretty much sums up the claim that states are legitimate authorities as being impossible because basically if it were true then they wouldn't actually be needed at all which is a very interesting concept.
Recieved email from The OU which suggests it is time to start thinking about the future. Maybe a little premature but I have been looking at MScs and which Universities offer BPS accredited courses, I think my first choice would be University of Liverpool followed by University Of Surrey and then University of Middlesex, what I have discovered is that postgrad study is quite pricey and I haven't really got my head around scholarships and if funding is available. I thought there might be the option to work part-time whilst doing the MSc but this appears to be discouraged and after reading through the workload I think it is very much a case that your life is on hold for that year. I've also been looking at possible jobs after the MSc and am looking at the route of Crime Analyst although I suspect these are highly competitive positions.
Also after looking at module options on The OU website I am tempted to not bother with DSE232 which is an optional module and maybe look to do SXR208 - Observing The Universe. This may seem a little random but from what I have read about DSE232 it seems that people think it should just be linked in with DSE212 and it would be nice to add a little variety to the degree and maybe it's a little to do with spending a week in Mallorca in an observatory staring at the stars. Mind you at £770 for a 15 point course it will take a little thinking about!!!

First Day Take 2
New job seems to have more humans than the last one, they seem like a nice bunch of guys with ladish humour............... ahhhhhhh normality. Fingers crossed that this works out till my BSc is done and maybe possibly part-time for MSc if I can't afford 1st choice.
Been looking at MSc lately and have decided on a first and second choice. 1st choice is Uni of Liverpool because it is the best for my chosen path of Forensic Psychology, my 2nd choice would be Uni of Middlesex due to locality. Liverpool is going to be mega expensive and really can't make head nor tale of scholarships etc............
Done very little OU stuff as been on big chill since Friday although DD101 TMA04 is due on Tuesday so will need to stay in for a bit over weekend to check it over after getting DD101 TMA03 results back on Sunday.
Managed to do a little on DD101 TMA07 reading and highlighting but will take it to work on my first Sunday to spend time as not totally sure what it is asking for to be fair. Still have to write up DD101 TMA06 in full but have total supply of notes to pull from. ED209 TMA01 has come back from stepdad with revisions......... I asked him to read it to a point that he understood it and I wasn't too far off.
